«MANTIS»

«MANTIS» is a mobile laboratory able to assess the seismic vulnerability of buildings: evaluates the current static condition of the structure and its possible dynamic behaviour during an earthquake. This is achieved by a number of non-destructive tests in which the building and its grounds is treated as a whole system. It is a powerful tool which can be used to prevent potential seismic disasters to old or lesser old buildings.
During the technical analysis it

  • Determines the properties of the ground below
    the building

  • Lists, records and evaluates the existing faults of
    the structure/condition of the foundations

  • Determines the behaviour of the ground
during the propagation of a seismic wave

  • Detects hidden discontinuities/defects in the
    ground-building system

  • Tests the building dynamically and records
    its behaviour

The «MANTIS» laboratory is a result of a joint venture effort between SCORPION INTERNATIONAL SERVICES S.A. and the scientific centre for civil protection of the EMERCOM of Russia. Holds a Russian registration with a Patent No 2141635.

In addition, it has been certified according to ISO 9001:2000, verified by the Greek National Institute of Technology (EMP) Laboratory for anti-seismic Technology, and has been recommended by the EUROPEAN COMMISSION – JOINT RESEARCH CENTRE-IPSC (March 2003, Ispra Italy) as a “useful tool for rapid collection of complex geotechnical and engineering parameters qualifying and quantifying the condition of a building and its foundation media (subsoil, velocity profile, geodetic, dynamic, etc.).”

It has, also, been awarded the UN-Certificate of Merit, three Gold, three Silver and one Bronze medal at International Inventions Salons in Geneva, Brussels and Seoul between the years 1999 – 2002.

Amongst the most prominent neo-classical buildings tested by «MANTIS»
is the Greek Parliament in Athens Greece.
